YMCA Names New Executive Director & CEO

August 3rd, 2015 by Stephen Palmer

Richmond Family YMCA Board of Directors is pleased to announce the hiring of Misty Hollis as the new Executive Director & CEO effective August 3, 2015.

“We are happy Misty has agreed to serve the YMCA and our community as our Chief Executive Officer,” shared Board President David Stidham.  “Misty’s leadership, vision and community connections will guide the YMCA to its next phase in serving our members and developing our youth.”

Hollis’ background is in community development and public service.  Her work history is tied to the Chamber of Commerce, City of Richmond, non- profit sector and most recently Richmond Community Schools.  She also serves Richmond as an At Large member of City Council.  Hollis’ original connection with the YMCA was as a two term board member, including Board President, during the transition from the Y’s downtown location to the temporary location at Reid Health’s Rehabilitation Center.

Misty will be replacing Kevin Carr who served as the Director for 5 years.  “We are thankful for Kevin’s leadership that moved us from a temporary facility to our current facility at the CR Richardson building,” shared David Stidham.  Under the Carr leadership, the YMCA’s membership and youth serving numbers grew to a record number.

“For the past several years I have heard business leaders discuss the lack of soft skills being taught in our classrooms.  Every soft skill I have used in my professional career has been tied to my involvement with music or the Volleyball court,” shared Hollis.  “I want to ensure that Richmond youth have the opportunity to develop skills in a fun and goal setting environment.  Additionally, we must strive to provide our members with a welcoming and encouraging environment which develops healthy lifestyles.”
