Our Cause: At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side- by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn and grow.

The Richmond Family YMCA’s Impact Statement: We are committed to strengthening our community through the development of our youth, enriching each individual, and connecting our families. History of the Richmond Family YMCA The Richmond Family YMCA was chartered by the YMCA of the USA in 1908 and built our original building at 50 North 8th Street in that same year. In 1955 an addition to the original building was necessary to accommodate increased membership and programs.

In 2006 we were forced to close both buildings because of their state of deterioration. At that time we entered into an agreement with Reid Hospital & Health Care Services to share their Rehabilitation Center. The rehabilitation building housed our adult activities and many of our youth activities, while other youth activities were scheduled at alternate locations.

In January 2014, the Richmond Family YMCA began a new chapter in it’s 105th year serving the Richmond and surrounding area. The Y moved to a newly renovated 20,000 square foot facility inside the former CR Richardson Elementary School. The new space was designed to meet the growing health & Fitness needs of the community, as well as provided ample safe and secure outdoor space for youth programming.
